Paddyman

About The Band

Paddyman, real name Declan O’Sullivan, was born and raised in Co Kildare, Ireland, not far from Irish ballad legend Christy Moore. He started playing music in the pubs with his father aged 15. He says that it was there he learned the importance of building a repertoire of songs. “For me, it’s all about connecting with the audience”, he explains. “I play songs people want to hear. And then surprise them with a few unique stories and songs that make them go WOW!”

For more than 25 years he has worked at building that repertoire. He says that he is, “constantly writing and collecting songs that connect with audiences.” Some are serious, such as putting music to Luke Kelly’s poem, For What Died the Sons of Roisin. And others are just for the laugh, such as his version of Gangnam Style (Irish Paddy Style), which was shown multiple times on RTE and has over 250,000 youtube views. His first four albums, (Irish Drinking Songs, Who’s Your Paddy?, Live in Dubai & One for the Road) reflect this desire to share happiness through music.

In 2011, Paddyman decided to dedicate all his time to his musical passion. This resulted in new recordings, and hundreds of live gigs in pubs and festivals across the Middle East, Europe, North America, Australia & SE Asia. It also saw him expanding beyond the traditional vocal and guitar mix, to include a loop pedal, banjo, trumpet, harmonica, and bodhran as part of the show. In 2019 / 2020 & 2021 he produced 3 original sell-out shows (Irish Music in the Movies, Paddyman Comedy Show & The Parting Glass) for international audiences on board the iconic QE2 in Dubai.

Over the last decade, Paddyman has performed live to over 1 million people and was the first Irish Musical Artist to be awarded the prestigious GOLDEN VISA in 2021 by the Dubai Arts and Culture Authority in recognition of his contribution to the Arts in UAE.

Paddyman decided to move to North America (Niagara Falls, Canada) in 2021 to develop new material and launch a new stage of his career. His first show in Toronto’s Best Known Irish Pub (PJ O’Brien’s) was sold out (at $35/ticket).

Paddyman is currently connecting with local venues where he can perform his shows (Large Pubs, Theatres, and Festivals). In the meantime, he continues to perform at venues abroad in countries such as UAE, Bahrain, Singapore, Italy, and Ireland.

If you want to be thoroughly entertained by a unique show with an Irish twist, you should definitely check out Paddyman!

Fun Fact: Paddyman’s first job, aged 21, was as a beer salesman in Canada. Seven years later he was hired to travel around the Middle East selling container loads of drinks to embassies and military bases. In both cases, his unique selling point was his entertaining songs and stories. As a result, he has played gigs in the most unlikely places around the world: hidden bars in Yemen & Sudan, private parties for Sheikhs & Irish weddings at the seven-star hotel, Burj Al Arab.
