Grass Mud Horse Drop a Punked-Up, Celtic-Fueled Version of “The Hockey Song” — Out November 10th
NIAGARA, ON — October 19, 2025 — Celtic punk rockers Grass Mud Horse are bringing the great Canadian game to the stage with their high-energy new single, “The Hockey Song,” a roaring reimagining of Stompin’ Tom Connors’ national classic. The single hits all major streaming platforms on November 10th, 2025, just in time for hockey season.
Known for fusing the grit of punk with the soul of Celtic folk, Grass Mud Horse deliver The Hockey Song with driving banjo, pounding drums, and the kind of raw, communal energy that makes you want to raise your pint and sing along at the rink.
“We didn’t want to just cover it — we wanted to put our stamp on it, crank it right up, and let it loose on the ice,” says frontman Chris Barry, the Liverpool-Irish multi-instrumentalist leading the charge. “It’s not just a song in Canada — it’s an anthem, and we gave it the Grass Mud Horse treatment: fast, loud, and full of heart.”
“We’ve always believed punk and Celtic music share the same heartbeat — it’s about the people,” says Barry. “And in Canada, nothing brings people together like hockey.”
“The Hockey Song” drops November 10th on all major streaming and download platforms. See them perform it LIVE @ The Irish Harp Pub November 24 @ 7:30 pm. https://grassmudhorse.com/thehockeysong

Their performances are charged with energy, seamlessly blending punk intensity with traditional Celtic folk. Remarkably, they capture the same electrifying essence in the studio, channeling their spontaneity and instinct.
Now based in Canada with an international lineup, the band is working on their upcoming album, “Canuck Yourself,” which leans toward folk music, while maintaining the band’s raw, authentic edge. Influenced by The Clash, The Pogues, and The Dubliners, Grass Mud Horse is rapidly gaining recognition and establishing itself as a formidable presence in the Celtic punk genre.
