Barley Brae

About The Band

Barley Brae has been around in various forms for quite a few years and has been associated with The Irish Harp for many of those years. It has been known as a Celtic/Irish band but play far more musical styles than this – such as country, rock, folk, easy listening, and much more.

With their roots in Niagara, this local band blends the guitar stylings and vocal arrangements of Jim Dinwoodie, Scott Harris on bass, harmonica, and percussion, and Rob Wilkinson rounding out the trio on the accordion and keyboards.  When you hear these tasteful three-part vocal harmonies, you’ll have no doubt that this local Niagara trio is something special – it’s no surprise that this band entertained a crowd of over 5000 at Fort George beneath a brilliant fireworks display.  They’ve also had the pleasure of entertaining icons like Don Felder (The Eagles) and Mary Travers (Peter, Paul, and Mary)!

Being a Celtic band at heart, you’ll hear plenty of Irish/East Coast tunes, but Barley Brae also boasts a repertoire of Canadian music. Gordon Lightfoot, Barenaked Ladies, Great Big Sea, and Blue Rodeo are just a few gems that you’ll have the pleasure of hearing. There’s much more to discover in their set list, from Simon and Garfunkel to Mumford and Son. And if you’ve got a hankering for something off the beaten track – this band takes pride in their efforts to accommodate your requests, if it is reasonably in the scope of their material.

Band Members
Jim Dinwoodie – Guitar, vocals

Fun Fact: Jim is a retired hydro worker with an impressive memory for song lyrics and a love of the outdoors.  His backyard oasis is reminiscent of a trip up north, with a stream, a pool, and several outbuildings that Jim has built himself.  However, to complete the look and feel, his wife does a wonderful job gardening.

Scott Harris – Bass, vocals, percussion, harmonica

Fun Fact: Scott is a retired teacher and a proud grandpa of two.  When he isn’t cheering on his grandchildren at soccer and volleyball, he’s either recording or performing in one of his several music projects.  In addition to playing the bass, Scott also plays the drums.

Rob Wilkinson – Accordion, keyboard, vocals

Fun Fact: Rob is a busy real estate agent who enjoys spending time with his wife and son.  He recently took a Beatles pilgrimage to Liverpool to heritage sites that celebrate The Beatles’ legacy.  Rob not only keeps busy with real estate but also plays keyboards for three other bands in the area.
