What did soldiers actually carry into battle during the War of 1812 – and what about the weapons of cavalry, sailors and First Nations warriors? Join Fort George experts Dan Laroche and Peter Martin for an entertaining look at the weapons that shaped the era, with historic examples on hand to see up close.
Dan has been at Fort George since 1988 and has served as its Manager/Supervisor for more than 20 years. He is a longtime researcher of the site and one of the authors of the new publication Fort George: A History. Peter brings more than 30 years of experience working at historic War of 1812 sites and has presented on military history topics across North America.
From familiar muskets and swords to more unusual weapons used by cavalry, naval forces and First Nations, Dan and Peter will showcase a fascinating assortment of arms and share the stories behind them – including who used them, how they worked and what made them effective. And this isn’t your average history talk. Put your knowledge to the test during a live War of 1812 trivia challenge, with prizes up for grabs and plenty of bragging rights.
